Empowering Communities
Join us in fostering well-being and sustainable development in underserved communities across Los Angeles.
Founded in 2015, the ONGI
- Supports descendants of the genocide victims to study, reflect, engage in dialogue, and deepen their understanding of the historical, social, and psychological dimensions of the genocides and their enduring legacy.
Promotes education and awareness about the genocides. This includes integrating genocide education into school curricula, supporting community-led learning initiatives, and conducting public awareness campaigns to foster historical understanding, recognition, and solidarity. - Provides comprehensive information and research on genocides for scholars, educators, policymakers, students, and the public.
- Promotes understanding, dialogue, and meaningful cooperation between the German government and people, and the affected communities.
- Calls for Germany to officially recognize the OvaHerero/Mbanderu and Nama genocides, issue an unambiguous apology, engage in genuine dialogue with the descendants of the direct victims, and provide just reparations.
- Supports the healing, restoration, and revitalization of the affected communities with initiatives that strengthen cultural identity, restore dignity, and promote economic and social development, enabling communities to thrive in safety and security.

Our Vision
A future where the genocides are fully acknowledged, taught, and meaningfully remembered - empowering descendants, promoting justice and reparations, and aiding in global genocide prevention.
Our Mission
The mission of the OvaHerero/Mbanderu and Nama Genocides Institute (ONGI) is to honor the memory of the victims of the genocides and to advocate for justice on behalf of the victims and their descendants.
